Plans call for the building of a ReStore building on Parsons Court in Goderich where a lot has already been purchased. A Habitat ReStore is a retail outlet for new and reusable home improvement products and household items at greatly reduced prices. By recycling these materials, Habitat ReStores across Canada have diverted over 12,000 tonnes from landfill sites. The proceeds from ReStore will support the construction of additional houses in Huron County.
Plans for Habitat for Humanity Huron County ReStore are being finalized for a 8,500 to 9,000 square foot building which is estimated to cost between $300,000 to 350,000.
As with the house builds we are really hoping we can have a great majority of the ReStore building built through gift-in-kind donations or financial donations so that once it’s built we’re not carrying heavy debt. We already have gift-in-kind suppliers for the steel and the roofing for the store.
Construction is set to begin in June. Once the frame is up on the new building, volunteer labour will be needed. The store plans include office, retail and receiving space but the final plans are still with the architect.
